We’re bidding to host Worldcon 2028 in Nuremberg.

Nuremberg is a captivating city and a major travel destination. It offers a striking panorama of German history and its many possible timelines. It’s also a city of surprises: one of Europe’s largest comic shops, the Zukunftsmuseum (Future Museum), great beergardens – and even a wood print of what’s often described as the first UFO sighting (1561 in Nuremberg).
Our venue is the Nuremberg Trade Fair grounds: connected, flexible conference centers that can scale to host a Worldcon with 4,000 to 12,000 members. We propose running Worldcon from Thursday, 13 July to Monday, 17 July 2028.
Getting here is easy with great transport links, to and within, the city. Accommodation options include a planned hotel cluster (close together and about 10 minutes from the venue), a hostel at the Imperial Castle (the large building on top of the blue umbrella), and a camping ground right in front of the venue.
If successful, this would be the second Worldcon in Germany (the first one was in Heidelberg in 1970).
What is Worldcon?
Worldcon is the annual convention of the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS). It was first held in 1939. Between 5,000-20,000 Science Fiction fans gather at Worldcon to celebrate and debate Science Fiction, Fantastic Literature, science and all their other interests together with hundreds of authors and artists. The members of each Worldcon also vote for the Hugo Awards one of the most prestigious awards in Science-Fiction.

How does this work?
The members of LAcon V, the Worldcon in Los Angeles in August 2026, will elect the Worldcon site for 2028. If chosen, our bid will gain the right to host the 2028 Worldcon in Nuremberg. If you would like to vote for Nuremberg, you must first become a member of LAcon V. Memberships start at $50 USD, and you can learn more on their website.

Why and who?
We think Nuremberg is the ideal city for a Worldcon, large enough to easily hold the Worldcon, small enough to change the city atmosphere for a few days. In our difficult times it’s also a city to reflect on the different timelines and possibilities, from the Nazi Rallying grounds right next to our venue to the medieval old town or the alley of human rights. Together with the relaxed Bavarian summer atmosphere and the central location in Europe it is a chance to reach out to new members and build a continental Worldcon community.
We are an experienced team of locals with extensive experience in organizing local festivals and events, joined by international experienced Worldcon community leaders and staff.
Support Nuremberg 28
Every Worldcon is built by volunteers – and we’d love you to be part of building something that brings people together. We’re looking for people who can throw parties, help at bid tables, support marketing and outreach, or simply keep the wheels turning behind the scenes. And if we win, we’ll need a whole new level of volunteer power to help make Worldcon 2028 in Nuremberg real.
Vote
The most important way to help us is to vote in the Site Selection vote administered by LAcon V. To vote for Nuremberg you must have a minimum of a WSFS membership in LAcon V. This can be purchased alone or as part of an attending or virtual membership. See the LAcon V registration page for more information. The Site Selection vote will open later in 2026. To cast your vote at that time you will need to pay a voting fee which will give you a WSFS membership in whichever bid is successful for 2028.
